APICAW was founded in September 2001, in the immediate aftermath of the attacks on September 11. As numerous formations opposing racism and military action began to come together, APICAW united out of the need to strategize and organize around issues that specifically affected Asian and Pacific Islander communities. APICAW believes that issues of US militarism, anti-immigrant sentiment, and increased policing and surveillance of communities is inherently linked, affecting our communities in the U.S. and abroad.
