The Asian & Pacific Islander Coalition Against War (APICAW) stands in
complete solidarity with the Palestinian people who are facing state-sponsored
genocide by the U.S. supported Israeli government. We call upon our Asian
& Pacific Islander communities to voice our disgust and condemnation of
these atrocities. During a period of time when any dissent against the
US government is seen as an act of "terrorism", we need to speak up against
the hypocrisy of our own government. Because Asian and Pacific Islander
communities have experienced the bitter consequences of US economic, political
and military intervention in our homelands, we must stand in solidarity
with the Palestinian people who are being oppressed by the same forces.
APICAW condemns Israeli aggressions against the Palestinian people. Since
9.11, Sharon has used the cover of Bush?s "war on terrorism" to heighten
attacks on Palestinian villages, cities and refugee camps. Sharon has
declared outright war on the Palestinian people. His so-called "war on
terrorism" has resulted in further cuts in electricity, food, water and
medical supplies and the indiscriminant shooting and killing of innocent
civilians. The majority of people who are being attacked by the Israeli
military are not engaging in "terrorist" acts. Israeli military occupation
and policies of displacement, oppression and humiliation of the Palestinian
people are the real reasons for the suicide bombings in Israel. Sharon
is really trying to kill the rising people?s movement for self-determination.
Both Sharon and Bush refuse to make the distinction between "terrorism"
and the struggle for national liberation. International law has stated
that resistance to illegal occupation is not terrorism. The Palestinian
people have the right to demand self-determination and the right of return
in their own homeland.
APICAW condemns the government of the United States for its unprincipled
and undeniable support of Israeli occupation and military aggression.
Bush cannot urge Sharon to keep a "pathway to peace" and urge moderation
while supplying over 5 billion dollars a year in both direct and indirect
aid; most of it used to subsidize the Israeli military and its tanks,
helicopters, and guns. His calls to Sharon for "immediate withdrawal"
and the "end of incursions" mean nothing without concrete steps to end
military and monetary aid to Israel. Israel receives the most US foreign
aid of any other country in the world. The United States is sponsoring
Israeli state terrorism in order to secure its own national interests
in the Middle East, ignoring the international call for the US to end
its support of the genocide of the Palestinian people. We have seen the
US play this role over and over again in our own homelands. The US government
has directly and indirectly supplied the economic, military and political
support that led to the massacres of our peoples in the Philippines, Korea,
Vietnam, Cambodia, East Timor and the list goes on. Bush continues the
legacy of US imperialism by defining "terrorism" as any people who dare
to stand up to the United States and its allies. Since September 2000,
over 1000 Palestinians have been killed by the Israeli military but we
have yet to see the US State Department put Israel on its list of terrorist
nations. As people living within the United States, we have a right and
a duty to call for the end of US support to Israel.
- APICAW calls for
an immediate withdrawal of Israeli military from all occupied territories
and demands that Israel adhere to international law.
- APICAW demands
the end of US aid to Israel. Without US arms and money, Israel could
not continue its occupation of Palestine.
- APICAW calls for
immediate divestment from Israel. No more support for an apartheid state.
- APICAW demands
an end to the media blackout. Media should report the truth, not a one-sided
propaganda war that tries to justify the genocide of the Palestinian
people.
- APICAW supports
the self-determination and right of return of the Palestinian people
and calls for an end to Israeli occupation. Without this, there is no
hope for peace in the region.
- APICAW stands in
solidarity with the growing movement of people all over the world, risking
their lives and bodies in support of the Palestinian people. We call
upon our own communities to immediately join this struggle.
